Documents You May Need When Selling a Vehicle in the UAE

Requirements depend on the vehicle, its registration status and the seller. This is general information, not legal advice; AL HADAF confirms the exact list for your case during the deal, and procedures can change, so always check current requirements with the relevant authority.

Documents commonly requested from individual sellers

  • Vehicle registration card (Mulkiya)
  • Seller's Emirates ID
  • All keys, and the service book where available
  • Proof that traffic fines are cleared, where applicable
  • Bank documents if the vehicle was financed

Documents commonly requested from companies

  • Copy of the trade licence
  • Identification of the authorised signatory
  • Company authorisation to sell, where required
  • Vehicle registration cards for each vehicle

If the vehicle has bank finance

A financed vehicle is registered with the bank's interest on it. To sell, the loan has to be settled, and the bank issues documents when it is cleared. Ask your bank for the settlement amount and for the process and timing. If the sale price is lower than the outstanding amount, the difference has to be covered.

Traffic fines and registration

Outstanding fines usually have to be dealt with before ownership can be transferred. Check the vehicle's fines record, and make sure that the registration is valid. A lapsed registration can usually be renewed, but it takes time, so check early.

Before you hand over the vehicle

  • Remove personal items and data from the infotainment system
  • Agree the price and payment method first
  • Complete the ownership transfer together with payment
  • Keep copies of all documents and receipts
  • Cancel or transfer insurance as appropriate

Machinery and heavy equipment

For heavy machinery, we usually ask for proof of ownership and, where applicable, registration papers, plus information on finance. For cranes and lifting equipment, inspection and test certificates support the sale. Requirements differ by machine type, so we explain what applies.
